About Me

Michelle Hughes - Founder of Pay it Forward

Hi, my name is Michelle Hughes and I see myself as an advocate and an ally to my friends in the Deaf community.

I started learning Auslan in 2017 through personal development & community courses and studied for a Diploma of Auslan. I have many friends and connections in the Deaf community through my experience volunteering on three Deaf committees and at events such as Expression Australia Deaf Rally, Bunnings BBQ for Deaf Women’s Football Victoria, Deaf Basketball Australia, Deaf Auskick & many other social & sporting groups. In addition, I’ve been a member of Deaf Bushwalking Victoria since 2019

I’ve worked as an Auslan tutor for families with Deaf children & currently teach courses alongside Deaf tutors & mentors with a focus on making learning affordable and accessible to everyone in a comfortable and relaxed environment. I also have experience teaching Auslan LOTE in primary school and have worked for a Deaf-run business.
